@Steve -- Thanks. I will say, that riding on busy rodes scare me to near death. I try to take back roads. I think when it gets warmer, I will likely drive in my car with my bike to areas that have biking trails just to be safer than the road.

Happy belated Birthday!!!

I've been wanting very much to incorporate biking into my workouts, but the idea of riding on the road kinda freaks me out, and apparently riding on the sidewalk is frowned upon (boo!)

Happy Birthday! Mine's tomorrow :)

I actually bought myself a bike for my birthday last year. I did my first sprint tri in 2008 with the (heavy) Trek hybrid I had for years. Once I knew I liked it and planned on doing more, I wanted a road bike!

Since I'm just doing the same sprint for the third time this year, I'm not super experienced so I don't know how helpful this will be. I ride a lot on paved trails or in quiet neighborhoods b/c I really am not comfortable on the streets unless there is a bike lane or decent shoulder.

Make sure you get in brick workouts, where you do two of the three back to back. The most important is bike + run, to get used to running on tired legs.

You don't have to do the full distances all together, but make sure you're at least close individually.

Open water swimming is A LOT different than the pool, so practice if you can. I don't know how you can prepare to share the water with hundreds of people. I still struggle with it, but usually get somewhat comfortable after the halfway point.

I try to track my calories eaten vs burned when I'm training to make sure I'm getting what I need. It's easy to using training as an excuse to eat too much!
